Annie over at My Life As Annie, our wonderful host of Time Travel Tuesday, has this for us for this 23 day of October 2007. "this week. What's the most serious accident or illness you have ever had? Tell us about it!"
I know My days are backwards but that is HOW I'm feeling!
I found out last week that I have a problem with my thyroid gland it is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located just below your Adam's apple. Since Feb of this year I have just not felt right. Always tried, no energy, a lot of weight gain. This has been hard to deal with, specially since I had just lost over 95 pound in 2006. I just had know idea what was going until the finally my doctor took blood. This is what he found:
Hypothyroidism is what they call it and what a mouth full to say . If you did not know, the thyroid produces hormones that affect your body's metabolism and energy level. Thyroid problems are among the most common medical conditions but, because their symptoms often appear gradually, they are commonly misdiagnosed. I have what is called HYPOTHYROIDISM (Under active thyroid) The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's thyroiditis. In this condition, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland. Common symptoms of hypothyroidism are: Fatigue or lack of energy, Weight gain, Feeling cold, Dry skin and hair, Heavy menstrual periods, Constipation, and Slowed thinking.
The good news is the DIAGNOSIS of hypothyroidism is usually straightforward, once it is suspected. All that is needed is to elevated level of serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
TREATMENT of hypothyroidism consists of taking thyroid hormone in pill form on a daily basis. Symptoms of hypothyroidism should clear up within a few months of starting treatment. Adjustment of the dose of thyroid pills is based upon measurements of serum TSH. Most patients need to take thyroid hormone for life. THAT scares me the rest of my life...
SO, I have been reading a lot about this and I'm going to first try a natural ways. While taking a good look at the FOODS I'm eating, under my doctors care I went to a 800 calorie diet. WOW! How CRAZY am I? My goal is to loss 35 pounds. Through weight watchers meal plans, and protein shakes it's not all that bad. I have to eating 5 small meals a day 6am-9am-12pm-3pm-6pm or something like that. It's really not as bad as I thought. If you ask my family and friends here they might tell you something different. HA HA
"I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward-to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back." Phil 3:13-14
Special Thanks to my friends and family for all the support. I know it has been a long tough, week with me. Thanks for just LOVING me SO much! To my blogger friends I will keep you posted.

Sorry your going though this, but I know God is with you and he is in control thought all of it. I'll keep you in my prayers.
I also have hypothyroidism. I found out that I had it because of miscarriages (it can apparently cause that). I now take a teeny tiny pill everyday. I feel so much better- not tired and cold all the time. I don't know of any bad side effects to the medication. Keep us updated about how the natural way works out for you. I'm curious to know.
